Corporate anxiety

Today my managing editor called me a team player.

Still trying to decide whether that's good or bad.

The shirt in the link below may apply to Angela from The Office, but I think it would be interesting for me to wear around:

During the 18 years I lived in my hometown, the biggest business news was when we got a Sonic. The entire town came out at once to patronize the establishment, making it difficult to get a spot to drive-in and order for weeks.

Every time I went to the grocery store (a Brookshire's, not a Whole Foods or Central Market), I would see at least two, usually three or more people I knew.

For years and years and....more years, it seemed apparent that the only new businesses that were ever going to form were nail/hair salons.

And now, in just one year, this little city is getting not only a Starbucks, but also a Target.

Where is the world I once knew? WHERE?

Speak For Yourself

Today at work, I went to check my mailbox, expecting to find several letters from people who want free publicity. Instead, I found one lonely yet exciting-looking package. Nothing on that package indicated whom it was from or what might be its contents. I opened it to find one bag of Orville Redenbacher microwave popcorn and a note that says "Welcome to the Richardson community," signed Beth.

Who is Beth? Am I supposed to know her? Is she some prominent figure in our community that can get away with only signing her first name like Madonna that I'm currently oblivious to?

Beth, whoever you are, thanks for the popcorn. If only I had your address, then maybe I could return the greeting with some Act II, which is what I currently have in my cabinet.
